Government alone cannot rebuild Kerala -MP

Adimali: Kerala has faced a disaster which cannot be solved by the government alone, said Joyce George MP. He emphasised the need of collective efforts while he inaugurated the district level rehabilitation programme of Peoples Foundation. “We faced the disaster together beyond all differences among us. We can retrive the losses only if this unity is maintained in the future too. Many lives were lost in the deluge. The bereaved families are still in a stage of solitude. Peoples Foundation in the regard are worthy to bring back the secluded. If other organisations also follow the path, a great change can be brought in.

The loss of livelihood is yet to be assessed. The pace of bureacracy has been slowed. It is highly condemnable that the officials have not yet revealed the list of benefeciaries. The failure of administrative system to stand with the affected are creating crisis, MP said.

Jamaate Islami district president MM Shajahan Nadwi presided over the function. He asked to keep up the solidarity and unity among the people in the future too.

Rescue activities were carried out by volunteers from inside and outside of the district. Houses and wells were cleaned.

Peoples Foundation representative Jamal Panayikkulam said that 1500 houses will be built. 15 acres of land are availed to build houses for the homeless. Houses will be built for 25 families of Peoples Village in Wayanad. Post flood rehabilitation convenor Abdul Haleem detailed the project. District panchayat president Kochu Thresya Paulose inaugurated the repair of houses. Adimali panchayat president Sreeja George, Vellathooval panchayat president TR Biji, Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi district president KN Divakaran and others spoke.
