Five nomadic families who have been wandering on the streets and in the outskirts for decades will now have their own houses and addresses. Following the intervention of former Kaipamangalam MLA E.T. Tyson Master, Mathilakam Panchayat and People’s Foundation joined hands to build houses for these families in Marekkad. The state government had allocated Rs. 6 lakh each for a house and land for each family through Mathilakam Panchayat. Earlier, Rs. 10 lakh had also been made available for the purchase of land. These houses are being built on land provided free of cost by the People’s Foundation. In a situation where no one was willing to build houses with the amount allocated by the government, the People’s Foundation itself took over the construction work. Aslam, the son of late Koodapulli Abdurahman, gave the land to the People’s Foundation. Rafeeq and his brother Isa, natives of Mathilakam Punnakka Bazaar, Vaipipada, are leading the construction work for the People’s Foundation. Mathilakam Panchayat President Sumathi Sundaran performed the construction inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony. Development Affairs Committee Chairperson Prasitha presided over the function. People’s Foundation Area Coordinator K.M. Nassar Master, Panchayat Member Chinju Aneesh and Haseena Gafoor spoke. Abdul Khader, N.A. Hasan, T.H. Hydros, C.K. Manaf, Sreeji Kodungallur, Siddique Azhikode and others were present.
