UYAREE – Paraplegia Rehabilitation Project

The project aims to rehabilitate and empower paraplegic individuals and their families by addressing their physical, emotional, socio-economic needs through a comprehensive plan. The aim is to ensure the economic rehabilitation of 400 paraplegic families in four years. Since its inception, People’s Foundation has been designing and implementing projects with special focus on paraplegia sufferers. During its ten years of operation, various projects and programs such as treatment facilities, medical camps, pension schemes, job skills training, entrepreneurship training, mega camps, family-meets, school kits, festival kits, etc. have been organized for paraplegia sufferers. 48% of the families in this area do not receive government assistance. 95% of them are unable to earn their own income and 73% of them need help in their daily lives. Studies say that 70% of them are illiterate. Only through continuous activities can their struggles be alleviated and solutions found. There should be continuous efforts on the part of voluntary organizations to turn challenges into opportunities and make a lasting impact on the lives of those affected by paraplegia, thereby ensuring their and their families’ rehabilitation. Understanding this, the People’s Foundation has launched a special rehabilitation program for paraplegia sufferers in the four-year program 2023-27.
